We're raising the money for this pool now, and it isn't secured yet. We'll confirm how much is available by December 1, 2026. We'd rather tell you that plainly than promise something we can't pay.

Why we do this
A lot of the best climate work in the Twin Cities is done by people who aren't paid to show up at events. When someone's expertise is their community, their culture, or their craft, asking them to share it for free is asking them to subsidize the week. Even a modest honorarium changes who can say yes.
Who it's for
Honoraria are for people contributing their own time and expertise, especially:
- Community organizers and leaders of grassroots or neighborhood groups
- Indigenous knowledge keepers and partners
- Artists, musicians, and cultural workers
- Facilitators of climate cafés, grief circles, and similar conversations
- Anyone speaking or leading on their own time, without a salary covering it
Not covered: people speaking as part of a paid job (a staff member presenting their organization's work), sponsors, and the Twin Cities Climate Collaborative (TC3) core team.
How much
- $250 per contributor, per event. That's a common starting point for a single community session (Presbyterian Women honorarium guidelines; George Mason University). If someone is leading something bigger, like a half-day workshop, tell us and we'll talk.
- Up to two contributors per event.
- A shared pool of [TBD], first come, first served, with priority for environmental justice partners, Indigenous partners, and first-time hosts from communities new to MCW.
- Indigenous protocols come first. If a Native partner or knowledge keeper has protocols for gifts or compensation, we'll follow their lead.
If your organization can pay its own speakers, please do. The MCW pool is for events that otherwise couldn't.
How to request one
- Email [email protected] with the event name, the contributor's name, and their role.
